PUT A NUMBER ON YOUR INDEPENDENCE

When does local AI
pay for itself?

Bring your API usage. Compare the hardware, running costs, and time to break even.

Working in $ USD

Live planning estimate. Adjust the starting costs and the share of work you expect to move locally. Hardware capacity is confirmed before purchase.

01

Your monthly workload

Choose the local replacement you want to evaluate. Model quality and tokenization differ from your current API.

million
million
%

Only include workloads this local model can replace. The rest of your API bill stays in the comparison.

Use variable token spend for the usage above. Exclude fixed seats, tools, and subscriptions; use blended rates if caching or batch discounts apply.

02

Your local system

Include delivery and taxes consistently. Upfront installation, deposits, or fees apply to both comparisons here; don't enter the same cost twice. Lease payments are assumed constant over the selected period.

03

Your running costs

Include our management subscription or your team's maintenance cost. Enter 0 explicitly if you want to exclude a cost.

Power assumptions
watts

Starts at 500 W for a 720-hour month. Replace this planning allowance with your expected whole-system power, including cooling.

Benchmarks, assumptions & calculation

Quick estimates use the local share you select without checking machine capacity. The starting API bill, electricity and maintenance figures are editable examples; the USD hardware price starts at the catalogue price where available.

Core, Pro and Enterprise require measurements from the actual build. Enter the model, quantization, context, processing speeds and whole-system power you measured. Speeds from other GPUs and multi-GPU scaling are not assumed.

Processing time = input tokens ÷ input speed + output tokens ÷ output speed, divided by the chosen performance percentage. Estimated offload is capped by the hours available. No batching gains or concurrency guarantees are assumed.

API savings assume the same input/output mix and proportional variable spend for migrated work. Validate output quality and token usage on real tasks; a local model is not automatically equivalent to a hosted model.

Monthly net savings = avoided API spend − local electricity − management costs − any lease payment. Purchase payback = (purchase quote + upfront costs) ÷ positive monthly operating savings. A negative result is shown as extra cost, not hidden.

This is a cash-cost estimate, with constant usage and prices. It excludes financing interest beyond the payment entered, end-of-term buyouts, residual value, discounting, and tax benefits. There is no exchange-rate conversion. Match the comparison period to the payment term and include applicable costs in your inputs.
